This is my personal blog about 72 Datsun 240Z callsign Goldie. First of all i would like to say that this is for those who have intrests in this type of car and for those who are in the same situation as i, starting from the scratch. I have little experience about cars and this is one way learning more. This car was no-running when i bought it and naturally i intend to make it run.

Waiting for the Sun
Got some parts while waiting for that darned spring to finally kickstart. I got "new" motor antenna wich im gonna restore, antenna is OK but gearwheel etc is stuck so it wont lift the antenna. Left one is the "new" one, i buffed it a little so it actually looks good. Right one came with the car and im not sure is it even original Nissan part..? Both work electrically, i've tested it. Right one is missing its mast, some turd has snapped it half. What the hell do you do with half cutted telescopic radio mast anyway?? I also dismantled half of the interior, got new quarter panels and i have Dynamatted them, maybe it reduces noise.

What a beauty!
This baby is either THE original one or replica of Rauno Aaltonen's legendary 240Z. He drove it in Monte Carlo-rally several times. He was also a test driver for the Nissan corporation, specialised in 240Z spending 3 years in that. Rauno has said that Monte Carlo was a real RALLY back in the day, he referred that today its closer to kindergarten. :D

In the meantime...
Winter is at its best, or worst if i may deciede. Few days were good for fixing Z but then again the temperatures drop below -20C and the garage is super cold. Luckily it has been the most driest winter i've ever experienced, good for the Z.
I've managed to replace the passenger side tie rod end but the drivers side is stuck. REALLY stuck. Also some parts have arrived from US of A. New quarter panels (old ones are busted and have holes) and some other small stuff.
I think Goldie needs a new radiator, old copper one cant get rid of all the heat. If someone has few extra bucks (or new radiator!), you could donate them for good cause :D
Im gonna do some heavy driving next summer so heat dispersion must be optimal. First i was like "if its not original, im not going to use it!" But now im going to the direction of "if it helps my Z to stay on the road longer, im in". You get the point. If someone has experience about the difference of aluminum and original copper (or brass?) radiators, tell me!

Mini Z and other stuff
My lovely wife got me this nice miniature Z so i took few photos with "big brother". I also like to introduce my DIY emission control patent. I couldn't get the air gallery off(that suppose to be the right term) from the exhaust manifold so i just closed it. It doesn't affect drivability in any way, it's just plain ugly :D Someday i'll remove that piece but in order to do that carbs etc. must be drawn out. Added few closeups, Z's are beautiful no matter what angle you shoot them. Oh yes, i have new fuel pump also.

Something to do

Well as i told in previous posts, winter has arrived and driving season is officially over for Z. Now it's THE most dangerous (and fun) driving season as the roads are ultra slippery. That means either you'll drive very carefully or take all the fun you can get! Narrow forest roads are the best place to practice rally driving this time of year, there's little options for you: drive well or hit the tree. Of course no one forces you to do that, but there is lot of young blokes testing their skills on the road.
Anyways, i ordered some parts wich i intend to change soon, before January. Tie rods were little worn out as were rubber boots. I decieded to put "power steering" in to my Z by changing the worn out steering coupler to brand new ABS-plastic one.
