Headlights working at last!


Thanks to MikeW in classiczcars.com i managed to fix lights. Problem was in the combination switch contact surfaces. Fixing it cost me 1$.

Looking great! Now i got the headlights working, well at least sometimes. Problem must be in the combination switch. Also the clutch slave cylinder wont move even i bleeded it several times. That's my biggest headache at the moment..

Still kicking

Project Goldie is going on, not fast but steady at least. I took passenger seat, center console, steering wheel column cover etc off for repairs. I just ordered all new weatherstrips and soon i will get to install them, but before that is time to repaint door panels and all other interior parts.

IT'S ALIVE!

After cleaning the fuel pump and making full inspection of fuel lines i got it finally running! What a nice steady idle! And most of all, no smoke!

After 37 years of driving, 1,5 years of no-running, more than 15000km of travelling over the Earth in container, 600km in trailer it finally made the debute in the soil of Finland! First owner has no idea how far his Z has gone, maybe i'll contact him someday and tell, it would be most interesting.

Let's see the engine!

Here's the L24. Straight six as you all may already know. Engine in general is in good condition. At least externally. I did a quick survey and all the hoses have to be replaced, filters i already changed. I added 10w-30 Neste Oil into dampers.


Of course i will renew all basic parts in engine but firstly im going to test run it for analysis. Old valve cover was worn out and with the car came new, polished one wich i replaced. I checked the valve clearances and they seem to be ok, of course it must be also tested when hot.
After basic procedures, it was time to start the engine.

It didn't start. For my joy, starter was in mint condition and tried really hard to start but it get no gas. Usually there is some gas in fuel filter but not now. For some reason fuel is not getting near motor. That has to be checked and for now its priority number uno. Suggestions are taken.

First look

Okay. Engine bay was fine except for the colour. Original colour is lime yellow but previous owner did a repaint year ago but left the engine bay with original coulour. So i started from the basics and first thing i did was cleaning, damn it was dirty from inside! Like someone had throwed a bucket full of sand and stuff inside. Old carpets were piece of sh##. I took one of them in my hand and it practically vaporised.

After few hours of scrubbing and hoovering it looks a bit better. You can see the original colour there. Next step for the interior is to order new carpets and floor mats.


For some reason the spare tire hole was full of water (?!) and the rim was rusted and its now useless. Luckily that water hasn't rusted car itself. Goldie has been in a careless home but that ends now.

There is still lots and lots of cleaning from the inside, stains and dust everywhere. Sometimes it's even hard to breath inside if not all doors open. More pics coming about that.

After long waiting, Z arrived to the port of Helsinki, Finland. Car was loaded on ship 26th of June and it arrived 21th of August.
After normal customs procedure car was taken to Hämeenlinna, from where i picked it up with trailer and drove 600km to Oulu. Long journey behind.

Here it is then, waiting to be repaired to its former glory again.
