Weber disaster

All good things come with a price. As did these Webers. I waited for 3 whole months for them to arrive, and when they finally did, they miss 4 venturis and chokes plus 1 out of 3 carbs were different, later series that does not fit to old 18 series.

Well i gotta say, i just love tinkering these carbs, its like playing with Legos again. Now im lookout for a third 18-series 40 Weber, willing to trade my extra 149 series.

But the karma had surprize for my, a unused 3-2 MSA header for less than half the price!

Dual ain't enough!

Well the project is going on slowly, as it is always, especially now that the temperatures have dropped way belove zero. Garage needs to be heated at least 2 hours before any repairs are done in humane temperatures. Engine bay is now primered but brake lines and fuel lines needs to be removed before final paint. I think i'll leave that to spring, not good idea to paint in cold garage. Instead im focusing on the engine improvements.

I got my hands on triple WEBERS... we'll see how this ends..

A shitload has happened since my last update, lets just say that picture says more than a thousand words :)

Operation: Going Euro

I just got VERY rare Z part, and with that my z takes a turn to Euro. Part by part my plan is to convert it to "EDM or JDM" standard z. European 240z's were equipped with 5 speed gearbox and non emission balance tube. I have 2 out of 3, 5 speed tranny is on the way here. Of course there is dozens of minor differencies that i cannot yet do (no rear marker lights for example etc. etc.) but step by step. I have been enjoying driving so the updates might not be that regular as they are in wintertime, but ya'll z drivers understand this.

Sunday driving

Polished the car and went for a little spin. Weather was nice and so was the Z, no more leaking exhaust! Turns out that the main reason for stinky Z was the non-existent antenna drain hole rubber.

Winter vacation

Not much have happened since last. I have replaced the valve, but im waiting for more parts. Living close to arctic circle is a pain in the ass thing, when all the parts have to be ordered half world away. This winter seems to be a lot warmer than previous 2, its almost +-0 all the time. Christmas is a time of ultimate money consumption, but i've decieded to be cheap ass, and buy only affordable gifts, and only to few people. Saves me more money to spend on Z! Japanese car bug has bitten me seriously, i have tons of plans for my B310..but rubbing my forehead with wallet helps me to forget them. For a while at least..

Finally its off

Been struggling with the watercock screws for at least few weeks (only now and then, not 8hrs a day) and after curse and shout, it came off. It was so rusted that im convinced that heater core itself is intact. It eases my job and its one step closer to more complete Z. Picture for comparison, guess which one is the old one :P

New glove compartment box is on the way as are door front seals. Hope MSA can deliver all the packages before x-mas.

Smashing dash

After renovating the blower, i thought "what the heck" and dismantled half of the dash. Front panel is now off as are almost everything related to heating. There was ton of dirt and old tree leaves inside dash, i might as well put somekind of filter in there.  Plan is to refurbish that worn old front panel and smoothen up the work of levers, they have been jammed by the crap. Chrome is in decent shape, actually this part is originally all chrome, black paint is just painted over. So it SHOULD be easy to fix..

Arigato.

Baby steps. I've sanded the fan blower and now priming it. It might even look good when i've finished it. That would be the very first time i managed to do something right :) New watercock is also visible in the same picture. In order to remove the old one i need something called impact driver. Maybe it'll do the trick. I managed to snap 2 bolts in the bumper while removing it, so the left bracket needs to be welded.. well, that's just me. Messing around as usual.

New garage doors and other stuff

While waiting for the inevitable (winter), we decieded to fix the garage properly. It's a 2 car garage so it needs 2 doors. We bought Turner 230's and after cursing and fixing the yesterdays work (everyday) for a week, we managed to get them properly on place. Now Z lies in perfectly safe and a bit warmer garage.

BUT all good things come with a price. I was hoovering the Z when i found out that the heater core or watercock is broken and leaking. Drivers side carpet has saved the day and sucked all the leaked coolant, phew. Now the blower is off and im working my way in to the depths of dashboard. Hopefully i manage do some progress in this winter.

Winter IS coming...

Yet again summer starts to fade out and fall is hitting hard on us. Water pouring from the sky endlessly and wind blowing the leafs off the trees. It looks like someone has pulled grey blanket over us. No Z-tastic weather. Today we (basically my father-in-law, he's quite the craftsman) begun to install new garage doors. Hopefully it insulates the garage enough to keep it warmer during winter. You know, winters are EXTREMELY cold in here. At least from January to March.

Plans for the coming season:
-renew seat foaming
-new struts
-paint the hood
-new rear inner hatch seal (stinks like hell)
-small stuff ("new" luggage straps, NOS valves etc.) Thanks to Michael for parts!

It's all about the money though. If i win at the lottery, i might have the chance to do all this.
But i suppose i have to start from the important ones, getting new hatch seal is crucial, if i dont want to die in exhaust fumes. Current one is old MSA piece of shit, they claim that the new reproduction model is not that bad. So i took the bait and ordered it.

Few night-time shots from few days back. Been driving with Z all the summer and total mileage for this season is over 2000 miles. No problems so far. These are reliable cars or what!

Vappu-day parade

We had traditional Vappu-day parade and here is few videos and pictures.

Refreshed oil pan

I decieded to remove oil pan for cleaning and repaint and changed the gasket at the same. There was almost 1cm of dirt in the pan! Luckily that dirt coat has keep the rust off. Also old gasket had leaked oil, this solved that problem. Did compression test to engine and for my suprise, all the cylinders topped to 150 psi! Nice!

Waiting for the Sun

Got some parts while waiting for that darned spring to finally kickstart. I got "new" motor antenna wich im gonna restore, antenna is OK but gearwheel etc is stuck so it wont lift the antenna. Left one is the "new" one, i buffed it a little so it actually looks good. Right one came with the car and im not sure is it even original Nissan part..? Both work electrically, i've tested it. Right one is missing its mast, some turd has snapped it half. What the hell do you do with half cutted telescopic radio mast anyway?? I also dismantled half of the interior, got new quarter panels and i have Dynamatted them, maybe it reduces noise.

What a beauty!

This baby is either THE original one or replica of Rauno Aaltonen's legendary 240Z. He drove it in Monte Carlo-rally several times. He was also a test driver for the Nissan corporation, specialised in 240Z spending 3 years in that. Rauno has said that Monte Carlo was a real RALLY back in the day, he referred that today its closer to kindergarten. :D
